Do Calorie Shifting Diets Result In Weight Loss?

The calorie shifting method of dieting is currently enjoying a massive increase in users. A staggeringly high amount of great feedback given by those that have used the method seems to be behind this. No diet works for everyone, but does this one have a better chance than any other or is it just another fad.

The way the diet differs from most diets that exist is that it focuses on shifting calories rather that drastically lowering your calorie intake. This basically means that the type of foods you eat changes on a daily basis.

The reason it works is because by shifting the foods you eat your body fails to recognize that you are on a diet. This keeps your metabolism working at a good rate. Other diets fail for the good reason that they fail to stop your body from sensing you are on a diet, which in turn slows down your metabolism and starts to store your fat instead of burning it.

The calorie shifting diet also has benefits apart from its shifting calories technique. The fact that you eat 4 meals a day definitely helps to prevent snacking and breaking your diet. You also never feel uncontrollable cravings for anything as you know that after every 11 days you get 3 full days to eat what you please.

Anyone that is looking for a weight loss program they may not have previously considered then I would highly recommend giving a calorie shifting diet a try. Results don't lie and you can find great feed back on any weight loss forum so why not give it a try the next time you are considering a weight loss program.

If you have tried other diets and failed then why not try a Calorie Shifting Diet. To find out more about shifting calories and the diets using the method click here.

The South Beach Diet Plan - How I Made it Through Phase 1

I love to eat! I guess thats why I hate dieting so much.

Most of those fad diets either totally restrict you from eating the foods you love (and crave), or they make you eat an overabundance of the foods that are well, not my favorite.

After all, how many eggs, peanuts or oranges can you really eat? I guess thats why I was so hesitant to follow my friends on the South Beach Diet bandwagon.

They were all trying it, and yes, even losing weight. I watched enviously as their waistlines got smaller and smaller, but couldnt get their groans and complaints out of my head during those first few days and weeks on the program.

Give up all sugar, carbs and fats for two whole weeks! Not me! No way! Not even for a smaller dress size.

Then I went to see my doctor for an unwell feeling I couldnt shake. I wasnt really sick, I just felt tired and icky all of the time. After some tests, he told me my glucose levels were rising, my cholesterol was hitting an all-time high, and even my blood pressure was boiling.

Me? Ms. Healthy? I knew it was time to get serious, so I asked around and did some research and actually found out that, in addition to being a diet, the South Beach plan was being used by people not only as a safe way to lose the weight that affects your health, but it also teaches you how to eat in a more nutritious and satisfying way.

Okay, time to give it a try. And the very first thing I ran up against youre probably heard about it -- was the dreaded Phase I of the South beach Diet Plan: the hell of restriction, as my friends like to cal it.

Luckily, I knew so many people whove been on the diet already, I could turn to them for assurance and advice.

By the way, thats Tip #1: Get a Support System in Place.

For me it made all the difference. I honestly dont know if I would have succeeded without the support of my friends. They shared their tips and stories of surviving the first 14 days on the program and made me feel like I could too. Here are some of my favorite survival tips:

Indulge in one last favorite meal and dessert before starting the diet
Get everything thats not allowed to touch your lips in the first 14 days out of the house and threaten anyone who dares to sneak in contraband foods
Keep a daily journal about your feelings during Phase I (its great to read how those cravings and yearnings really affected the way you think and feel after its all just a distant memory
Avoid mall shopping during Phase I (the smells of the food court will kill you)
Dont plan on attending any family gatherings, school functions, parties, etc. for two full weeks (become a hermit)

Ill admit it, during those first few days on South Beach all I wanted was to dive headfirst into a bag of chocolate chip cookies, dipped in whipped cream, with a side a fries and a big slice of pizza.

But when a friend came over and cooked me the most delicious meal of lean chicken and sauted veggies sprinkled with low-fat cheese (yes, I said cheese!), I knew that Id make it.

Thats Tip #2: Presentation.

The plate she set before me could have rivaled one found in any five-star restaurant. I learned that night that a beautifully prepared plate of colorful veggies cooked to perfection out beats a bag of Oreos 10 to 1.

Within a week my grumpiness was subsiding after all, my sugar levels were leveling out and my blood pressure was coming down and I wasnt even craving junky stuff anymore. I was actually looking forward to finding new ways to prepare and serve my new healthier food choices.

Which leads me to Tip #3: Learn to Cook.

Since starting South Beach I have learned how to really enjoy cooking. Watching a variety of cooking shows and incorporating their ideas using my South Beach approved foods was one way I found to survive the first phase of the program, since you can always find new and interesting ways to prepare and enjoy the foods I was permitted.

I couldnt believe when the two weeks were over. It seemed to go by so fast, and then I was allowed to start reintroducing some of my favorites again into my daily eating plan, like fresh fruit and bread (thank God!).

The best part was I no longer craved some of those no-no foods like cake, ice cream and even, yes, those diet buster cookies! And I managed to lose a whopping 12 pounds, a true triumph for someone like me who had never been able to follow any diet for longer than a day or two before!

Was starting the South Beach Diet difficult? Yes, in the first few days, but it sure was worth it!

Did you know that most people who dont complete the South Beach Diet Plan drop out because they cant make it through Phase 1? Want to avoid becoming a part of that statistic? 71 Weight Loss Tips - Surefire Success Strategies for All of Us

I'm often asked if I'm familiar with the 71 weight loss tips, and if I can "explain" what exactly they are. It's interesting how urban legends can spread, and especially online, this diverse set of inspirational ideas and quotes related to weight loss has taken on the sheen of a mystical guidebook for melting away the weight. It's not... What this simple text document does do is highlight the very best lessons that a whole cross-section of people from different walks of life have learned in their quest for an improved body image and self transformation.

I'm not sure who originally posted them, but you can find them in simple blogs everywhere, reprinted freely - and for the most part are comprised of little self help affirmations like - " take it slow - you didn't gain all the weight in one weekend, so you surely won't lose it all that way either" .

Other pointers are - "find a passion" and " it won't work until you do it for yourself" and things of that nature. Very simple, straightforward advice and heartfelt assimilations of the collective wisdom of many. But, contrary to many who ask for an opinion on them, there really isn't ANYTHING to opine about... I am in complete and full agreement with anything and everything that inspires, motivates, moves and coerces you to take action and attack your weight problems.

The central point always is, and always will be this. You have to take action, and whatever leads to that place is exactly what will work for you. Timing is often key. When people get to the point of their lives where absolute desperation kicks in regarding their bodies, their health and their futures...my experience tells me that is EXACTLY when the motivational motor kicks into high gear! I'm hoping you are there today - but if not, I'm willing to keep trying to inspire you to get there.

How to Lose 4 Inches

Once you know the secret to losing inches fast, it no longer seems so difficult. Read on to find out my tried and true methods for rapid, healthy, and amazing weight loss.

Detox

Our bodies are full of toxins. Every day, we are breathing in dirtier air and eating food with more preservatives and carcinogens. And, our body is attempting to protect us from these impurities by storing them in our fat cells. It's our bodies built in defense mechanism.

The problem with this defense mechanism is that it makes us bloated and larger than we deserve to be! We can fix that though. To combat this bloating and detox your body properly I suggest you do two things. First, get a good body wrap from a spa or do one at home. You'll lose several inches from your body while the toxins leave your system and your body will be in a better position to begin metabolizing your fat. Not to mention, it will do wonders for your ego, and get you started on your path to losing four inches the right way.

The next step you should take in your detoxification process is to begin taking a good fiber supplement. The majority of toxins in our bodies are stored in our intestinal tract and colon. The average person holds between 3 and 7 meals in their colon, unnecessarily, at any given time. Getting on a good fiber supplement will flush you out and jump start your inch loss efforts.

Metabolism

Raising your metabolic rate is of enormous importance in being able to rapidly lose inches. Many people try to lose weight by not eating and working out. This is flat-out silly. The old motto that weight loss is as simple as burning more calories than you take in is completely wrong. You need to eat to lose weight!

I know it seems counter intuitive, but think of it this way. If you never eat, your body gets used to being in this mode of starvation all the time, trying to survive on no nutrients. Then, when you do eat, you binge and your body is thrown into trauma. Now, your body is confused. It wants to burn up your food, but your body also knows it might need to hold on to that food for later when you starve yourself again.

Instead, try this. Eat. In fact, eat 6 meals a day, including right when you wake up. And for each meal, eat a serving of lean protein, complex carbohydrates, and of mono-unsaturated fats. Do this for 10 days and you will lose four inches, maybe more. Your metabolism will simply be through the roof!

Exercise

Exercise is important, but nowhere near as crucial as eating the right foods. If you are eating as I suggested, and drinking lots of water, you won't need more than 30 minutes of good interval training 3 times a week to lose masses of weight and ultimately get to your goal of losing 4 inches. And, your interval training can be as simple as playing a little basketball or doing a workout on the elliptical.

So, all you really need is to get rid of those unnecessary toxins, feed your body, and do some simple exercising and you can easily lose 4 inches.

That's all it takes!

Want to lose 4 inches in an hour? And, then work on losing 4 more? If so, check out: How to Lose 4 Inches

Different Types of Weight Loss Supplements

Many individuals would like to lose weight for any number of reasons, including appealing to the opposite gender, boosting ones self-esteem, or even health reasons. Today, there is a number of different kinds of diets and weight loss supplements (or diet pills) available on the market, so the task of selecting one that will work best for you can be somewhat daunting.

Weight loss supplements can be classified into categories: carbohydrate blockers, appetite suppressant, cortisol blockers, and fat reduction supplements.

The carb blocker is still fairly popular. A few years ago, the carb diet was all the rage; people though carbohydrates were unhealthy and not good for the diet, so by taking a carb blocker, one could theoretically eat more carbs while gaining less weight.

Fat loss supplements are designed to burn fat within the body, by a process known as thermogenesis. A supplement that is designed to induce thermogenesis will cause an individuals internal temperature to rise, thus burning body fat.

Cortisol is an component that is naturally produced within the body and is attributed as a major cause of belly fat. Cortisol tends to increase when stressed, leading to a rise in fat cells, particularly in the stomach. A weight loss supplement that is classified as a cortisol blocker works to help fend off and prevent cortisol production in the body.

Perhaps one of the most popular types of diet pills on the market is an appetite suppressant. Such a weight loss supplement is designed to curb hunger, making one feel full while eating less.

Be sure you research any weight loss supplements before you take them. They should be used in conjunction with proper diet and exercise, two other ways you can lose weight effectively. Make sure to carefully read the label and follow directions properly. Doing so will enable you to maximize your weight loss.

Discover The Secret To Build Muscle To Achieve Fat Loss

You want to lose fat, then muscle building workouts should be a part of your program, and remember the duration of exercise is most important, the longer you work out, the more calories you'll burn and in the end the more fat you'll lose. We all know that the hardest part of the body to shed pounds from is the abdominal area, abdominal fat loss is extremely hard to lose and it takes a very strict diet and exercise plan also, one of the best ways for effective fat loss is using a combination of low intensity and high intensity exercises.

Most people think weight loss and fat loss are the same thing, wrong. just trying to lose weight can be detrimental to your health. Targeting specific areas for fat loss is somewhat effective and provides long term health benefits.

The amount of fat we eat is important, only about 25-30% of our daily calories should come from fat plus, all Calories are created equal and you're overweight because you eat more calories than are needed to supply immediate energy needs. Any extra calories you eat are quickly converted into fat and then are stored as body fat and our body forms fat when calories are converted into fat and stored for future energy needs.

You Must Exercise To Build Muscle

To successfully lose fat, you must combine exercise with your low fat eating plan plus, increased exercise will require you to consume more calories, and regular exercise is one of the keys to targeting fat loss and the immediate benefits of exercise are increased energy levels, improved circulation, better muscle tone, and, of course, weight loss. The source of the calories does not matter because carbohydrate stores in your liver and muscles (called glycogen) depleted from exercise must be replaced during your recovery.

Muscle weighs two times as much as fat yet takes up half the space so that is because the more muscle mass you have, the more you burn fat efficiently because muscle is an active tissue and it requires calories to function. Muscle is responsible for burning fat and that makes muscle an integral part of permanent fat loss. A loss of too much muscle can be dangerous, and eventually even fatal. Your body fats and muscles are made up of completely different cell structure and they are so different that they cannot be converted to each other which indicates that muscles are very much alive and work very hard whereas fat just sits there doing nothing and just plain looking ugly.

Another big obstacle in fat loss is alcohol consumption so please keep in mind that weight loss and fat loss are two separate entities, and its fat loss dieters really need in order to change body composition for the best. When your body enters starvation mode, fat loss will slow down or even cease as your body tries to conserve it's energy.

Lose Fat - Build Muscle

A Beginners Guide To Body Building

Swimming For Weight Loss

There are various forms of aerobic exercises which are considered beneficial in aiding weight loss. In fact not only are the beneficial in weight loss, at the same time they help to preserve this weight loss for a long period of time. They are also very significant in providing strength and stamina to the body.

The term 'aerobic' means 'with oxygen' and aerobic exercises are mainly concerned with the process of energy generation within the muscles of the body which is done with the usage of oxygen. It has been proved beyond doubt that aerobic exercises if adopted on a long term basis are extremely useful in facilitating weight loss. During aerobic exercising it is possible to lose weight as the glycogen within the body is broken down into glucose and in its absence the metabolism of fats is facilitated leading to weight loss.

Swimming is a form of aerobic exercise and it is not only a wonderful activity during the summer months but at the same time it is equally beneficial in aiding weight loss. Swimming aids in preserving a well toned body and while it is a good way to beat the heat during the scorching summer months, it is also to be mentioned here that the effects of swimming provide a dual purpose.

The act of swimming provides the benefits obtained form weight training and strength training as well the cardio benefits that can be obtained form running. Therefore it goes to prove how efficiently swimming can aid in losing weight. There are various other ways by which swimming can facilitate weight loss. It is known that obesity is detrimental to health and makes one susceptible to heart ailments, diabetes and cancer. Swimming greatly aids in the proper functioning of the lungs and the heart. Since most individuals enjoy this form of exercise, they are more often unaware of the fact that swimming is a rigorous form of exercise and increases an individual's workout level considerably. This in its turn therefore initiates weight loss.

Swimming offers a plethora of benefits to obese people. It is known that an individual's weight in water is about 1/10 th of his actual weight as measured on land. Therefore for obese individuals who find it difficult to carry out physical exercises on land, it is a more viable option as it makes it easier for them to carry their body weight. At the same time, it aids weight loss.

Many weight loss diets fail from lack of discipline.

Get Moving - The Benefits Will Last a Lifetime!

The benefits of physical activity are numerous and very well documented. Aside from substantially reducing the risk of dying of a heart attack, regular physical activity decreases the risk for stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure and certain forms of cancer. Regular physical activity helps to build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints and reduces the risk of arthritis and osteoporosis. Regular physical activity helps reduce the symptoms of arthritis and degenerative joint disease and reduces the falls among older adults. Regular exercise has even been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. As overwhelming as these benefits are, the sad fact is that less than half American adults do not get enough physical activity to provide health benefits. Less than one third of adults in our country are physically active in their leisure time. The good news is, its never too late to reap the benefits of an active lifestyle.

Activities performed at a higher intensity or longer duration generally offer greater health benefits; this however, may not be a realistic goal or starting point for everyone. Healthy benefits can be gained from activity as simple as a brisk 30 minute walk five or more times a week. Life can be busy and hectic but with a little creativity and planning every body can make room for physical activity. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Replace that coffee or cigarette break with a fitness break by talking a brisk walk or doing some stretches at your desk. Play with the kids or the dog. Instead of driving around to find the closest parking spot, park farther away and enjoy the walk. Remember when it comes to physical activity every little bit helps.

To reap the full health benefit of physical activity an exercise plan should address the five components of physical fitness as outlined by the Centers of Disease control. These five components include cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, body composition, and flexibility. In future columns we will more specifically address these individual components, as well other pertinent topics such as nutrition, weight management and injury prevention. Weight Loss Workouts

The first step towards a healthier, slimmer you is to make the decision to achieve a healthy weight and start to exercise. The second step is to find a sensible weight loss program and exercise plan. Crash dieting will not do, you need a slow, steady, and sustainable weight loss program.

It's easy enough to half-heartedly say you are going to lose weight but to make a solid commitment to that goal is something different. In order to achieve weight loss success, you must be willing to make a total commitment to do the things that are necessary in order to achieve any kind of success in your weight loss endeavors. You can't achieve success if you are not going to make the full commitment to do the things you know you need to do in order to lose weight. Until you are ready and willing to make that commitment you will not be able to achieve any kind of success with the amount of weight you are trying to lose.

Effective weight loss programs require you take certain facts into consideration; for instance, the time you eat during the day as well as what it is you eat, how often and whether you exercise at all. Don't be too ambitious and set yourself impossible tasks like losing 30 pounds in less than a month; this is not sensible because it can have a vast impact on the entire body bringing about other health problems like anemia or heartburn. However, if a reachable goal is set you should have no problem with your program.

Losing weight is all about how you feel about yourself but once you start an easy weight loss program and feel physically better it makes continuing this lifestyle change easier.

The No Excuses Workout

I saw a great thing today. I left my office for a meeting right before lunch. I returned at around noon. As I drove up to the top floor of the parking garage I saw something I had not seen before. I usually am in my office so I was unaware of all the walkers we had in our building. The parking garage has nine levels. On each level I saw at least one pair of people in sweats walking either up or down the levels.

Now, I would not recommend this if your parking garage is prone to people speeding and zipping through, as it would become a safety issue. I did like the idea of walking in pairs. Not only does it give you someone you can talk to, but it also keeps you accountable to someone should you not feel like exercising. Your walking buddy could push you to exercise or vice versa.

Most of the people that work in other offices in our building usually have a one hour lunch break. As I drove up I could not help but feel anxious to write this article. These people are taking exercise to a whole new level, no pun intended. They are taking away the excuse factor. For those of us that have said in the past that we do not have enough time to exercise, we no longer have an excuse.

Taking time out during our lunch break not only helps to burn some extra calories, but it also gets us energized for the rest of the day. Using the parking garage walkers as an example, we see that our lunch hour could also become our exercise hour. I remember when I was younger and would visit my brother at work. He and his co-workers would walk across the street to a basketball court and play basketball on their lunch break.

I am not saying that you should round up your office mates for some full court running, but use it as a way to spark some ideas. You could also go jogging on your break. If you work close to a pool or a beach, you could swim some laps. If you work close to a gym you could lift some weights or do some cardio work. Get creative, make it fun and stop making excuses for yourself.

If someone offered you a way to get into the best shape of your life would you turn it down? What if it was free? If you are as smart as I think you are then let me help you with more free tips to get you in shape. If you just need some encouragement come check out Health, Wellness and Fitness For life.

1. Water - yes water is something that comes out of a tap, but keep a jug of water handy so that you can be ready. This helps you to keep the water cold.

2. Milk - Use low fat milk where possible. You will use milk on your cereal or porridge in a morning.

3. Fruit - Fruit is very good for you, it's a lovely healthy snack food. Try eating fruit instead of crisps.

4. Carrots - Cut them up into sticks and eat them raw as a form of snack.

5. Peanut butter - This contains protein, but little fat. Put it on toast instead of using any butter.

6. Eggs - Everything has eggs in it, you need them whenever you bake anything. They also make a great breakfast, just don't fry them!

7. Yogurt - A nice refreshing snack for hot days. Yogurt can be used to make a number of different drinks and can also be used in Indian cooking.

8. Butter - use it sparingly though! You do need it for baking things

9. Lemons - If you eat seafood and fish often then you defiantly need some lemons. You can also use them to make lemonade.

10. Mayonnaise - This is high in fat so don't use it every single day. It is great to use sometimes however. Try and buy a reduced fat mayonnaise.

11. Mustard - Use this instead of mayonnaise on your sandwiches. This has virtually no fat.

12. Cheese - Don't eat chunks of the stuff, sprinkle it onto otherwise dull dishes to make them spring to life.

13. Drink - You must drink something, try drinking fruit juice and water.

14. Ginger - Fresh ginger keeps for a very long time in your fridge. Just put it in your ice box whole.

15. Bread - A sandwich is a great lunch every now and again. However bread does have a lot of carbs, so don't go crazy. Buy bread from a local bakery if possible as it has less salt in than the mass produced stuff.

16. Cans - Buy canned vegetables and fruit, they really help you out of a tricky spot if you have run out of fresh fruit and veg. Tinned food can be kept for a long time, so don't worry about it going out of date.

17. Pasta - Pasta is a quick and easy meal to prepare

18. Rice - Rice is also extremely easy to cook

19. Herbs and spice - You'll never know when you might need spices and herbs. Try buying them in bulk, the small containers are pretty expensive.

20. Cereal - Great breakfast, little preparation time full of good stuff for your body. Much better than any muffin.

Abdominal Weight Loss - Do You Need To Lose That Belly Fat?

Every day many people get up in the morning, look in the mirror and say, "I really need to lose that belly fat". Is this you? Is abdominal weight loss a concern to you? Do you actually need to start an abdominal weight loss program or is it all in your mind? Do you see a problem where none exists? If you are not sure, maybe we can help shed a little light on this and help you decide whether or not you really need to be concerned with abdominal weight loss.

If you are a little overweight and comfortable, maybe you don't really have a problem that needs addressing. But if you are obese, you do need to take some action. This seems obvious, but many people do not realize that there is a difference between being overweight and being obese. So how do we define obese?

What Is Obese?

Various healthcare professionals have different definitions. The rule of thumb for many years was that if you were thirty or forty pounds overweight you were obese. A better gage is the BMI or Body Mass Index which is a ratio of your weight to your height. The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute has an easy to use online calculator which is free to use and lets you quickly know whether or not you have a problem.

If the calculator indicates that you are obese, you need to be concerned about your health as well as your appearance. Obesity has been linked to multiple health complications and is one of the leading causes of premature death.

Listen To Your Physician

Your physician may have also recommended you do something about abdominal weight loss. One of your friends or family members may also suggest you have a problem with belly fat. If they do, don't get upset. Realize that they are concerned and are trying to help because they care about you.

Do Your Clothes Still Fit?

You may also need to do something about abdominal weight loss if are finding that your clothes are uncomfortably tight. Remember though that it is normal for some people have their weight fluctuate. Unfortunately, many individuals do not just have a small weight gain or fluctuation. A small gain often leads to more and becomes more and more difficult to control.

Shortness Of Breath

Another indication of an abdominal weight loss concern is that it is harder to do simple tasks without becoming exhausted. If climbing a short flight of stairs or doing your every day chores is tiring you out it may be time to consider a weight loss program.

Of course, shortness of breath from simple activities may not necessarily be a weight problem, but there is a good chance that it is. When you lose weight, even just a little bit of it, you will likely find it easier to do many of the activities that you love or even the tasks that you need to do, like take your kids to the park.

Summary

The above mentioned signs are just a few of the many signs that you may need to get serious about an abdominal weight loss program. But use caution. Many of the weight loss products on the market, such as diet pills or exercise equipment, really don't work and some may even be harmful.

One of the best ways to loose that extra weight and keep it off is to diet every other day. This really breaks the routine. To discover the secret of how two "fatties" succeeded doing this after everything else failed go to The Every Other Day Diet Review.

Weight Loss - Why Lose Weight?

You probably picked up this book because you want to lose weight as a way of looking better. But the simple fact is, your weight is more than a matter of taste or aesthetics. It's a matter of health. I encourage you to read this chapter because it is, quite literally, the heart of the matter. Many of the problems associated with overweight affect your heart, and because of that, they affect your life. In this chapter, we discover why it is unhealthy to carry around excess weight.

The medical perils of being overweight

Being over weight increases your risk for many serious medical problems. The vast majority of overweight people suffer from one or more of the following conditions: diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, gall bladder disease, and arthritis. If that isn't bad enough, obesity is the second most important factor contributing to death in the United States. (It should come as no surprise that smoking is the first.)

Diabetes

Nearly 16 million Americans have diabetes, a metabolic disorder in which the body does not make enough insulin or cannot use it effectively. About 95 percent of people with diabetes have type 2 diabetes, which is closely tied to being overweight. Each year, more than 190,000 people die from diabetes or its many complications. For people who live with diabetes, it is a frequently disabling disease.

Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in people between 20 and 74 years of age.

It is a major cause of kidney disease, requiring dialysis or kidney transplant.

People with diabetes are as much as four times more likely than others to have heart disease or suffer a stroke.

Diabetes causes nerve damage, which may require amputation of a toe, foot, or lower leg.

In men, diabetes is a frequent cause of erectile dysfunction.

There is no cure for diabetes, and it requires lifelong management and medication. All diabetics require a controlled diet to regulate blood sugar levels, and regular checkups to detect damage to the eyes, nerves, and blood vessels. There are ways to lower the risk of developing it, however. Although type 2 diabetes tends to run in families, people who are overweight and inactive are at much greater risk of contracting the disease.

Losing weight, controlling blood cholesterol levels, and engaging in some form of regular exercise are the best ways to prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes.

The 3 Easy Ways to Shed Unwanted Pounds

Wouldn't it be great to see yourself again at the beach with no worries about your weight or going shopping for the pants that you would only be able to fit into when you were in high school? Or imagine your self healthier with more confidence about whatever you do. When you lose weight you will no longer live the stressful life that most overweight people do no more. Today, I would like to share with you some small steps that you can take in order to achieve long term weight loss success.

Here is how you can shed those unwanted pounds in these 3 easy steps:

1. Commitment and Goals

Now, the reason why I put this step for number one because I feel that it is the most important thing you can do in order to get the results you want. I think that you should take a piece of paper and write down all of the things you want to change about your body. You should also write down how you plan on losing all of your weight and also put some dates of when you expect to be at your goal weight. You should constantly look back at that paper whenever you wake up and whenever you feel like eating unhealthy. Constantly remind yourself that you no longer want to be overweight and you want to look good at the beach.

2. Diet

Really, don't think of it as a diet. It should be viewed mostly as a lifestyle change. Take a look at what exactly you are putting into your body now and analyze which is good verse which is bad. When I first started my diet, I would ask myself before I ever put anything in my mouth, "Is this brownie harming my body" or "Is this piece of Pizza harming my body". Just sift out everything that is bad for you. Now, when you feel like you are good and lost some pounds, you may treat yourself for one day, but that's it.

3. Walking for Exercise

I could have really put any other type of exercise up there, but how would you feel about this article if I said Rock Climbing for exercise. That is a very intense workout and usually can't be done if you're not fit. Walking is such a great way to start off your exercise regimen. Walking can actually be done all through your weight loss journey if you choose. It is the easiest and most addicting exercise there is.

Alkaline Diet - How Does It Help?

Introduction

Alkaline Diet, also known as Alkaline Acid Diet, is a diet based on consumption of food such as fruits, vegetables, roots, nuts, and legumes but avoid dairy, meat, grains and salts. Recently, this diet has gained popularity among diet and nutrition specialists and authors. It is still in debate on the efficiency of alkaline diet because there is no concrete evidence that alkaline diet can reduce certain diseases.

As aforementioned, fruits, vegetables, roots, nuts, and legumes are part of alkaline diet. This is because these food released alkaline after being digested, absorbed, and metabolised. On the other hand, dairy, meat, grains and salts produce acid after the processes. Food is categorized as acid-producing or alkaline-producing based on their pH (power of Hydrogen) values, where pH 0 - 6 is acidic, pH 8 - 14 is alkaline and pH 7 is neutral (water). Hence, alkaline diet refers to the diet of having more of alkaline-producing food.

Alkaline Diet

Our blood has a pH between 7.35 and 7.45, which is slightly alkaline. Alkaline diet is based on this pH level of our blood and any diet that is high in acid-producing food will disorganise the balance. When the body tries to revitalize the equilibrium of pH in the blood, the acidity of the food will contribute to the loss of vital minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, and sodium. The imbalance will make people susceptible to illness.

Unfortunately, Western diets are more acid-producing and they consume little fresh fruits and vegetables. Due to the advent of alkaline diet, the standard of Western diet has changed considerably.

Some diet and nutrition practitioners believe that acid-producing diet may cause some chronic illness and following symptoms such as:

~ headache

~ lethargic

~ frequent flu and cold, and excess mucous production

~ anxiety, nervousness

~ polycystic ovaries, ovarian cysts, benign breast cysts

Although some believe the above conditions are the result of acid-producing diet, and consumption of fruits and vegetables is beneficial to health, some doctors think that acid-producing diet does not cause chronic disease. Other than that, there are proofs shown that alkaline diets helps to prevent the formation of calcium kidney stones, osteoporosis, and age-related muscle wasting.

Balance diet

Although alkaline diet is preferred, it is not recommended to have extreme diet (eat all alkaline-producing food). It is healthier to strive for a balanced middle ground of both types of food. Just remember to take note of the pointers above and consult a practitioner/doctor before you want try a new diet.

Running on the Right Path

Career changes always require a painful transition period. A few years back I lost my job as a stage manager for live television shows, and I was feeling the heat. As I sat in my tiny little apartment staring at a huge pile of overdue bills, I could feel the pain coursing through my soul. I suddenly had the uncontrollable urge to just run.

I am an avid runner who loves running in the wilderness. The feeling of breaking a sweat with a good stride in the great outdoors is like no other for me. Your heart is pumping blood through your body like a turbo-charger, your lungs are sucking in precious oxygen as fast as you can breathe it in, your pores are excreting sweat and toxins like crazy, and all of your senses are at their peak of performance. You can feel the world around you and you know you are part of it. It is a wonderful feeling; a healthy addiction if you will. My drug of choice is endorphins.

I hurried down the stairs to the parking garage. The woman who lived below me was just getting out of her car when I entered the garage. She was a cigarette-totin Maggie with ashen-grey skin and a raspy voice that sounded like it was the product of damaged vocal cords due to years of yelling too loud at parties and breathing tobacco smoke relentlessly. She was tall, rotund and barrel-chested, with bleached white hair that she wore way too long for her age, which I guessed was somewhere around forty. She wore black clothing everyday that made her look like an albino witch. She was also a single mother of a teenage daughter that was seemingly out of control. I often saw this daughter coming home at four in the morning as I was just leaving for work. She was only thirteen, but she seemed to be in a big hurry to become an adult. Her mother didnt seem to care about her too much.

I drove to a nearby street and parked my car next to a couple of other cars at the entrance to a fire trail. I stretched for about five minutes, and then I was on my way up my favorite wilderness trail that led into the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains (California).

I grew up playing and exercising in those hills. It is my favorite place to go when I need to get away from it all. There are fire trails everywhere that accommodate anyone who is looking for exercise in a wilderness area that includes rolling hills, bush-covered chaparral, and majestic mountains.

About a mile into my run I began to work up a sweat. A group of dark clouds passed overhead and it started to rain. It was winter. I was only wearing a tee-shirt and shorts, and the rain was cold, but it felt good. The rain drops splashed over my face and body like a fire sprinkler from heaven that was released right on cue.

The sun burst through the clouds and I was soon bathed in warm sunlight again. I entered a rocky area filled with caves that were formed by millions of years of wind and water erosion. The Chumash Indians once lived in those caves before the Europeans came. I looked up to the right and saw a group of teenagers hanging out in a big cave that was about fifty feet up on the face of a cliff. One of them noticed me running down below and threw an empty beer bottle in my direction. The bottle hit a rock about twenty feet away from me and exploded into a million pieces. This explosion was immediately followed by an eruption of laughter from the group. I was thinking about stopping to say something, but I did not want to ruin my good mood.

I made a couple of left and right turns on trails that I originally explored when I was about eight years old. I ran deeper into the hills. Soon I was running up a series of steep switchbacks trails.

I eventually arrived at the top of the highest hill in that area. I stopped for a rest, and to take in the beautiful three hundred and sixty degree view all around me. I had mountains in front of me, hills all around me and the San Fernando Valley off in the distance behind me. I watched the sunset over the mountains and meditated for a moment at my favorite spot on earth. When I turned around I could see the lights of The Valley glistening like a million fire flies. I was about five miles away from the nearest civilization, but it felt like it was five hundred.

A half hour later I started my run back towards civilization. It was now dark, but I was not worried about getting lost, for I knew those trails like the back of my hand. Rattlesnakes were all hibernating, coyotes arent much to worry about, but mountain lions were a different story. Although attacks on humans were rare, there had been a couple of people killed in California in recent years. I did not want to be the next rare event, so I made sure to announce my presence by singing loudly (and slightly off-key).

Suddenly, I saw a shadowy figure of a person up ahead on the trail in front of me. I was not used to seeing other people that far back in the hills. I approached with caution. As I got closer and closer to this dark silhouette, I noticed that this person was just standing still at a fork in the dirt road. When I was about to pass this person I noticed that it was a young teenage guy. He was wearing brown nylon shorts and a yellow tee-shirt that said Calabasas Cross Country Team on the front. He looked very worried, and seemed to be lost.

The thin young man politely asked me if I knew which one of the trails he was standing in front of was the one out of there. He explained that he was training for an up coming cross-country competition and did not realize how far he had run, or how quickly it got dark now that daylight savings was over. I told him that I knew that area quite well, and that he could follow me out of there.

I made a right turn at the fork in the road, and the kid followed behind me. As we were running down the switchback trails it started to rain again. We ran out into a large valley with tall grass, and then the kid began to fall behind a bit. I slowed my pace down a little until I could see him again slowly running behind me on the trail.

As we were passing through the rocky area with all the caves we suddenly came upon the group of kids that were partying earlier. They were slowly walking on the trail and passing around a bottle of whiskey. A young girl noticed us approaching and broke off from the group with the whiskey bottle in her hand. As we were passing by the girl she held the whiskey bottle out towards us and with a sarcastic and drunken voice she said you guys must be thirsty! A full moon was now shining down on the area and it illuminated me to the fact that this girl was the thirteen year old daughter of the albino witch lady that lived in the apartment below me. She was too drunk to recognize me. We then jogged past the chuckling group of inebriated teenagers and continued on with our run through the wilderness.

We finally reached the end of the trail and we both stopped running. While trying to catch his breath, the kid thanked me for giving him directions. He then disappeared into the neighborhood. I walked over to my car and stood next to it for a moment. I thought to myself; I may not have much money, but I have my health. I am thankful for having parents who cared, and that I chose to run on the right path in life.

Natural Weight Loss - 20 Tips for Lasting Success and Better Health

Weight loss is a concern for most Americans. Whether you're struggling with those final ten pounds that never seem to budge or you have many excess pounds that are having a negative impact on our overall health, it's time to make a change. Having battled my own weight issues for over 20 years, I now use my knowledge to support my clients to achieve weight loss success.

Like you, I tried almost everything to lose weight, and it wasn't until I took a more holistic approach that I finally dropped 40 pounds. Incorporating what I learned from my experience, I have maintained my weight loss for over six years and counting. Now it's my pleasure to share my secrets with you so your weight loss journey can finally be different with a more natural, healthy and successful approach.

I recommend reading through the following weight loss tips before choosing one or two to start with. After you have successfully incorporated these changes, try one or two more. You do not have to make every one of these changes overnight. Just get started making improvements and be patient yourself. This way you will have lasting success!

  • Do not make weight loss your top health concern (concern equals stress); instead seek a balanced lifestyle.
  • 95% of all people that go on a weight loss program fail; they continue the roller coaster ride, mostly because they do not adopt new healthy habits for life. Make changes that you can maintain long-term.
  • Seek out support from family members and friends. You will do better than if you try to go it alone.
  • Visualize daily what you want your life to look like. Remember that your thoughts create your life so be mindful of what you're choosing.
  • Lower your intake of highly processed foods and eat high quality locally grown and raised whole foods as much as possible.
  • Eat three meals every day. Skipping meals is the best way to cause cravings and imbalance in your life, your health and your weight.
  • Include moderate exercise at least three times each week. Walk more and take the stairs daily.
  • Practice breathing and relaxation techniques. Breathe deeply into your belly daily.
  • Add lots of vegetables to your diet. The more vegetables you eat - especially dark leafy greens - the easier it will be for your body to achieve its ideal weight.
  • Drink water all day long. Start with 1-2 glasses upon rising in the morning. Consider each cleansing bathroom break as an opportunity to breath and enjoy well-deserved private time.
  • Consider keeping a food diary. Awareness is essential.
  • Avoid an extreme diet of low-fat, high-protein or low-carbs. Balance is best. Choose healthy fats (extra virgin olive oil, avocado, walnuts, almonds), lean protein (beans, seeds, fish) and healthful carbs (whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, oatmeal). Eat in moderation. Make vegetables a large part of your diet.
  • Eat slower with no distractions such as TV, work or reading. Avoid stressful conversations while eating. When we eat under stress it affects our metabolism and instead of burning our food we store it as fat. This is the natural fight-or-flight response of the body.
  • Set realistic expectations. You won't be the same weight you were as a teenager.
  • Don't follow the "Sumo Diet" of consuming large quantities of food late at night when metabolism is at its lowest. Eat a large breakfast or lunch and a small dinner of salad, soup, vegetables or a highly nutritious shake.
  • Be conscious of hidden sugars in your foods. Sugar puts on weight and can lead to serious health issues like diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. Read labels and educate yourself.
  • Avoid artificial sweeteners as these can cause cravings for real sugar as well as other health problems. Use natural low-glycemic sweeteners and eat naturally sweet foods.
  • Complete eating at least 3 hours before sleeping. The body needs to fast in order to burn stored fat.
  • Excess weight equals potential energy, unexpressed or un-owned power. Seek out creative expression.
  • Love and accept yourself as you are today... don't wait until tomorrow, because tomorrow never comes.

Having the right education and guidance made a great difference in my personal weight loss success.

Tips for Weight Loss

For a healthy body, it is very important to have ideal body weight. Try to reduce your weight gradually. If you lose weight quickly, you will gain it back fast and sometimes even more! Quick weight loss is not the answer to obesity.

Given below are some tips for weightwatchers. You will lose weight gradually and become fit over a period of time.

Tips for Weight Loss

  • Reduce fat: Fats have more than twice the calories than protein or carbohydrate! Our body converts excess dietary fat to body fat.
  • Limit sugar & alcohol: Foods with a lot of added sugar and alcoholic drinks are just empty calories.
  • Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day.
  • Eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, & whole grains.
  • Eat slowly: You eat more if you eat fast, as it takes about 15 minutes for our brain to get the message from our stomach that we have eaten enough.
  • Include a low fat protein-rich food like tofu, beans, eggs, and low fat milk, yogurt or cottage cheese with every meal.
  • No prepackaged foods, powders, or bars will make you slim.

How is Liposuction Performed?

The process of performing a liposuction is not simple by any means, and that is why having a licensed and certified plastic surgeon do the procedure is very important. In general, all liposuctions will follow the same patterns as for as the procedure goes. First off you will need to receive anesthesia. This may be a local or general anesthesia and will be determined based on a number of factors. The amount and type of anesthesia used during a liposuction depends on the liposuction techniques that you and your surgeon decided on as well as the amount of fat that needs to be removed from your abdominal region and your personal tolerance for pain.

In the event that it has been decided to go with a local anesthesia, the anesthesia will be applied to the areas that will see pain and in return those areas are made numb. When you are given a local anesthetic you may also be given a sedative to make you sleep as well. You may have decided to go with a regional anesthetic in which an epidural block is used to cause the entire lower half of your body to go numb. If the surgeon has decided to go with a general anesthetic you will be completely asleep and fed via an intravenous needle.

The surgeon will then inject a saline solution in order to loosen up the fat cells making them easier to be removed. Generally, this will have an anesthesia and adrenaline in this injection as well in order to numb the nerves that may be contacted surgeon the procedure as well as contract the blood vessels to lower the chance of bleeding.

After making the incision and injecting the fluids, the surgeon will use a vacuum to suck the unwanted fat cells from the area. This procedure generally uses small incisions which can easily be closed with only a few stitches. After the surgeon feels that he or she has gotten all of the fat cells they can remove safely, they will then stitch up the incisions through the underlying muscle tissue in order to pull the skin and muscle tissue together so that connective tissue will form between the two. In some cases depending on the amount of fat being removes, there may be some sagging of the skin at the lower abdominal region.
